About Us
ShadowSong Music is the duo of pianist Lynette Jones and vocalist/guitarist Timothy Jones.
`Classical pianist Lynette Jones began playing at Augustana Lutheran Church in Tustin, Michigan at age 7. She became church organist by age 16. Lynette went on to work as a pianist for Lansing Community College, accompanying musicals, voice classes, and pop rock bands. Later she worked as a piano instructor at Christian Music Center in Grand Rapids.
Tim started playing guitar at age 11. Tim and Lynette met in 1994. That summer they went rustic camping, and it proved to be a great way for them to bond. They married in 1995. Later that year, they played music at the opening of Cappuccino Jo's coffee house. They also were writing original songs and recording them.
In 1995 Lynette worked as organist for worship services at Burton Heights United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, and Tim began leading worship as a guitarist and vocalist. They formed ShadowSong Music and began working with area composers to develop, record, and perform original songs in churches. Tim also worked in sound reinforcement and guitar sales at Farrow's Music and began to study musical scales. It was during this time that he wrote the textbook, "Major Jones 4 Music."
Tim worked as a civil engineer. In 1998-99 he served as assistant project engineer for construction of the first phase of the Van Andel Institute in downtown Grand Rapids.
After that project was done, Tim and Lynette played music for residents of retirement homes, arranged by Senior Sing A-long of Wyoming, Michigan.
In 2004-05, Lynette played keyboard as a member of Sunrise II jazz band with Spike Klein at the Lansing Jazz Fest. Tim assisted at Sunrise II performances. He added jazz scales to his Major Jones 4 Music method. After that, Tim and Lynette, billing as ShadowSong Music, gave several performances, mostly in West Michigan, of jazz standards, hymns, and holiday music.
In 2005-06, Lynette played and sang at the Hungry Heart Café on Wednesdays. On Fridays she played piano in the lobby of Lacks Cancer Center. She also worked with Eric Murray when he composed the musical, "In Search of the King," performed by the Kentwood Chorale, Bob Azkoul conducting.
In 2009, while raising his two sons, Tim joined with "David's Harp" at Wyoming Park United Methodist Church to assist Lynette on the group's mission to Detroit's Cass Corridor. There David's Harp performed the ShadowSong Music original, "Armor of Light."
ShadowSong Music also arranged for recording, "The Park's Got Talent," benefit show with David's Harp. They helped produce the CD's and DVD's. Tim and Lynette performed their original song, "Lazy Bird," with David's Harp.
In 2010 Tim and Lynette produced a performance of "Adonai," with music from Georg Frederic Handel, at Wallin Congregational Church in Grand Rapids. Later, Tim made an mp4 video with original photographs in nature and "Apostles Creed" as audio track.
In recent years, FirstCovGR church granted Tim and Lynette rehearsal and recording space. In 2021, Tim performed the ShadowSong Music original song, "The Lord Is My Shepherd," during a study of Psalm 23.
